Large Antique Architectural Wood Gilded Crown, or ciel de lit, with original cream and gold paint. Crowns like this were used in cathedrals, but also over beds in luxurious homes. Meant to be mounted high on the wall over your bed, with luxury fabric draping down. Very heavy, this was hand carved in the early 1900's, such a stunning statement piece.
The demi-lune design features 5 decorative scrolls that support the curving wood pieces that meet at the top. The top is flat. On the back, there are two metal pieces with a place where the crown fits over screws in the wall. Antique wood and gilt crowns like this are getting so rare to find. With a beautiful aged patina and an opulent glamour, this crown will make for a one-of-a-kind interior statement. Wear, patina, and of course holes on the inside from decades of use.
