Antique 19th Century Sampler, made by Sarah Ash and finished on February 18, 1829. This fine school girl sampler, from a collection, was stitched on a hand woven homespun linen with black floss.
So charming, this sampler in a wood and gilt lined frame has three different ABC's, numerals, and the hymn written by London's Isaac Watts following.
Why should I say, “‘Tis yet too soon
“To seek for heaven or think of death?”
A flower may fade before ‘tis noon,
And I this day may lose my breath.
Backed by paper to prevent the original wood boards from damaging the linen, the owners added a metal hanger. A beautiful sampler, with all the stories and charm of centuries past.
