  • and I’m showing you my home decorated for fall – hands down my favorite season!

WELCOME!  If you came over from Yvonne at StoneGable, I’m so glad you are here! I’m sure she has inspired you with her fabulous ideas, she is the best!

Before fall really hit its stride here, I decorated the living room mostly with neutrals, see the photo below, as you might have seen in this post from the Welcoming Fall Home Tour.

Now that crisp, autumn days are here, I’m slowly changing over to the deeper, jewel-like colors I love so very much. I relish this glorious season by decorating with the exuberant colors and luscious textures of fall. Do you love fall?  Then embrace the beauty of this new season in your home’s décor, with the many irresistible colors, textures and patterns to choose from.

Here are a few designer tips to add subtle touches of fall to your home so that you will LOVE to be HOME in FALL too!

1. POWER UP YOUR MANTEL.

One of the most powerful places where you can make a fall statement is your mantel. It can be big, or just whisper a tribute to this gorgeous season. Often we don’t think to add many seasonal decorations to our mantel unless it’s at holiday time. But decorating your mantel for fall with a glorious treatment is a sure way to draw attention to this focal point in your living room.

In the living room, I changed out the mantel to go deep into the rich colors of autumn.

Thread the beauty of fall through your home’s décor with this very easy mantel decoration.  You can use the antique pieces you already own, and just embellish them for the season. On my mantel, an antique French apothecary jar provides a sturdy container for a clutch of branches, both real an “faux”, while a trio of velvet pumpkins perch on antique books.

These pumpkins from PlushPumpkin are truly heirloom quality. You will be able to enjoy them, and hand them down to your children, they are so well made. They are the pièce de résistance in any room in your home, I am always so excited to bring them out each fall, they are the perfect starting point for gorgeous displays.

Instead of having to buy a fussy garland, I layered seeded eucalyptus branches from the tree in front of our house on the mantel. When they dry, they have that gorgeous grey-green color that looks amazing with the color of our walls. See how easy that was?

2. TELL A COLOR STORY.

Autumn hues warm up your home at the time of year when the weather gets chilly and everything {and everyone} moves inside.  Deeper, luscious colors of green, orange, red and gold reflect the beauty of the season.

Adding them to your home in small doses is just enough to spread the warmth.  Our home is decorated mostly with neutrals of white, cream, grey, gold and a natural linen color, little pops of autumnal colors warm it up!

I bought twin wooly blanket throws last year {see that fall tour here} and while one creates plush comfort in front of the fireplace, the other is folded on one side of the sofa, ready to use while reading a favorite book.

The antique Biedermeier chair has a new slipcover of leopard fabric for fall. Leopard is classic, elegant and stylish, and it’s my favorite “go to” fabric in upholstery and clothing!

For an easy focal point on our coffee table, the large Italian Florentine tray is layered with some of my favorite French Country Design books {Charles Faudree…is there anyone more fabulous?} an antique French canning jar filled with fresh flowers, a few velvet pumpkins, and a pretend antler.

There is nothing quite like the warm glow of candlelight to welcome fall.  Our FrenchGardenHouse luxury candle, in Currant Verte, is my favorite scent right now.

What can compare to our unhurried hours at home during the fall?  There is such a delight in spending time at home during this time of year, isn’t there?

3. TABLE MATTERS.

One of the best & easiest places in your home to showcase the beauty of autumn is on your kitchen or dining table. I am such a believer that hours spent around the table with people you love builds memories to cherish for a lifetime.

In the other fall tour, I showed you how I set up this simple centerpiece with a French bowl filled with apples, a French Bonbonne {the wicker encased bottle} a small stack of my new favorite equestrian napkins, and a few ironstone cups.

Often I stack some small plates and forks and spoons on the French Boulangerie Board too, so that I can invite friends and neighbors over for a cup of coffee or hot apple cider at a moments notice, most everything is already set up!

When it’s time to serve dinner, I easily lift the whole arrangement onto one of the counters so I can set the table.  Fall is a favorite time to have long, lingering dinners here in the kitchen.

There is something intimate and cozy about gathering people we love around this table as the afternoon fades into evening in the fall.

I set our farm table for a casual dinner with friends.  Often, I serve soup with crusty bread, salad, and dessert for a meal like this so that it’s not too fussy – everyone is comfortable, and laughter rings around our table.

I fashioned an easy fall centerpiece with some of my Plush Pumpkins in an antique French footed stand layered with eucalyptus.  I love the texture of the silk velvet with the natural material, the silver tray, the semi-precious “gems” and pheasant feathers.  I’ll be sharing this table setting later on in a separate post.

Whether you want to dress your home to the max or just add a few small touches of fall, I hope you are inspired today to create a beautiful home for yourself and those you love.

It doesn’t really take that much effort to welcome this season with effortless grace.

Now, I have something exciting to share:  our sponsor, PLUSHPUMPKIN, graciously offered to gift this beautiful collection of velvet pumpkins to one lucky winner.
