how to decorate a mantel for the holidays

Welcome the holidays with an impressive mantel display that is French inspired.

In the master bedroom, the mantel is dressed with a lush garland of greens sprinkled with twinkling lights, and a dash of holiday charm.

Welcome to MONDAY MORNING BLOOMS!

I love decorating with fresh greens and garland during the Christmas season. Real greens are so festive, they bring me back to the holidays of my European childhood, instantly!

Here in California real garland dries to a crisp within a few days though, so I use faux garlands as a base. Once I tuck real snippets of eucalyptus here and there, no one can tell the garland and wreaths aren’t “fresh!”Ā  This year, I’m excited that we are again partnering with Tree Classics, a division of Balsam Hill, for this December post.Ā  The thick garland and wreath I chose from Tree Classics are perfect for adding real cuttings and leaves.

decorating your home for the holidays

In our French inspired bedroom, I decorated the mantel with the a Woodlands Noble Fir garland and wreath.Ā  The garland is the perfect size for our antique mantel, I hung it with the help of two Command hooks and a little floral wire, so I didn’t have to hammer any nails in the mantel.

What makes this wreath and garland so easy to use is that they are battery powered, so you don’t need to have a cord plugged in somewhere.Ā  I hung the wreath over the round antique mirror, then added just a few of our Southern Magnolia flowers from our Holiday Collection for an extra special touch.

To add to the illusion of a real garland, I wove in little bits of dried eucalyptus for a natural look.

It’s so easy, just clip little sprigs of the berried eucalyptus and stick them in here and there in the garland and wreath.Ā  The garland and wreath already come with white tipped pinecones.

how to decorate for the holidays

My mother-in-law passed away just last week, and I’m so thankful for all your kind comments and sweet emails that you sent me after seeing my Instagram post.Ā  Thank you for all your heart felt comments, I so appreciate each and every one of them. {and YOU!}

I’m also so thankful that this area of FrenchGardenHouse was already decorated before that. There hasn’t been much time to decorate up a storm like I do some years.Ā  The few decorations that I had already put into place seem perfect for this year.

how to decorate your home for the holidays

I love this area of our master bedroom. It’s such a cozy space, now that it’s decorated with our Flocked White Fir and the wreath and garland, it looks so festive!

The tree is “slim” so it fits in rooms that aren’t big enough for a full sized tree. I love it! This area is the perfect place to wrap a few gifts and sip a cup of tea.

I decided to replace the silver pitcher with the flowers with my little antique sheep and Christ child.Ā  They belonged to my grandmother, and I cherish them.

Surrounded by the 18th Century Angels this little display really is the heart of Christmas.

It reminds me that Christmas isn’t about perfection. It’s not about being busy, too busy to enjoy blessings of home, hearth, family and friends.

Christmas is about that gift of grace. And a love so deep we can’t even imagine.

Christmas began in the

heart of God.

It is complete only when it

reaches the heart of man.

This is a shot of the this area at night, with the white flocked tree in the foreground.

As you get your home ready for the upcoming holiday, I hope that you ready your heart, too.

Thank you so much, Tree Classics, for partnering with us again this year.Ā  I absolutely love both the trees we have from Tree Classics here at FrenchGardenHouse, and these garlands and wreath are the perfect addition to our bedroom.

I’m so sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. Prayers for a peaceful holiday season. On a side note, I made your salted caramel dip to take to our family Christmas gathering. Oh my goodness! Several desserts went untouched but that dip was devoured. It was delicious!
