Antique French Spelter Sculpture of Jeanne d’Arc, this one is definitely perfectly imperfect! Never underestimate the desire to ‘fix’ things by a Frenchman, this beloved Jeanne d’Arc figure at one point broke a leg off the platform and something else was cemented in place. Bought in France, I’ll confess, this is such a charming sculpture of the Maid of Orleans that I intended just to take her off the platform and offer her like that. But the platform? It came with her, and is quite lovely on most sides. {The figure off the platform is how she is sold most often these days.}
Joan of Arc is considered a heroine in France, revered as a martyr, viewed as an obedient daughter of the Roman Catholic Church, an early feminist, and a symbol of freedom and independence. This figure is made of spelter, it is in good condition for a piece of the latter 1800’s. She is missing her sword. If you are a lover of Jeanne d’Arc, please adopt her. She is not perfect, which is reflected in her price, you could take her off her ornate base, but I hope you will love her as is, as the French family who owned her for generations did. She wobbles a little bit, since her ‘fixer’ was not a master craftsmen, just probably put a new something on it to make maman happy.
