Always thrilling and rare to find a lovely service of twelve large cream white linen damask napkins with a beautiful central monogram "JG." This pretty monogrammed set is loomed of a top quality, fine medium weight linen damask, with an overall floral motif of small garden flowers, tiny buds and an outer frieze of flowers. I really upped the contrast to try to show it to you, the color in that photo is a bit darker than they are in "real life." These days, collectors adore setting their tables with antique French monogrammed linens, no matter whose intials they are, the embroidery is truly a work of art!
The monogram, centered within a floral medallion, is finely embroidered in an exceptional relief of bourdon stitching, accented with the tiniest motifs for extra style. The hems are hand sewn with precise, tiny stitches. Likely dating from the late 19th to very early 20th century. This pretty set is in very good antique condition, one napkin has some small storage stains. Measure: 24-1/2" x 28-1/2".
