Five exquisite large napkins loomed of a a luscious gold yellow, exceptional fine quality linen damask with a lovely central triple monogram "H K G" embroidered in an elegant, scrolling bourdon encircled with a grape garland. These pretty napkins are resplendant with a most charming design of cherubs or putti harvesting grapes to provide the sweetest of wines for the festival of Bacchus woven into the damask.
Dating to the earlier part of the 20th century, this set is so rare to find, almost perfect! One has a small professional mend on the edge, see last photo. Each napkin was hand hemmed, sold in a set of five-perhaps for an intimate dinner for 4 with good friends, and one for the croissant basket? Measure: 21-3/4" x 21-1/2.
