19th century French heavy bronze statue of the Holy Family, the Virgin Mary, Josef, and Christ child, with a lovely patina and fine delicate detailing, a beautiful and very collectable example of religious art. Dates to the late 1800's, bought in the Provence region of France. This type of sculpture would have been sold as a souvenir, for private use by devout Christians. Almost every home during this time had a devotional space to use as a private chapel or place of devotion. The pieces that depict the Holy Family are the most scarce.
Gilded, the cast design is intricate and depicts the Holy Family standing on a raised platform decorated with acanthus leaves, the front cartouche shield has "Famille". In the center, a hollow post, perhaps at one time this held a metal post, you could add antique porcelain flowers or just leave as is. The photos show this slightly lighter, the piece has an aged patina. In good antique condition, gilt has worn in places as is typical with age. A fabulous piece of devotional art, to add to your religious collection, to display with pride with your santos and madonnas. Measures 5~7/8"h x 4~3/4' x 2~1/2".
