Exceptional Victorian book The Story of Rosina and other Verses, by Austin Dobson and stunningly illustrated by Hugh Thomson in 1895, published by London: Kegan Paul Trench Trubner & Co. I purchased this book from the collection at Crathes Castle in Scotland years ago, it has a red leatherette and gilt impressed cover that is so charming, with a shepherdess, lots of her sheep and lambs, and a minstrel playing a song for her under a canopy of trees. Forty nine black & white romantic illustrations, of lovely men and women in period costumes, exquisite!
Verses include: The Story of Rosina; Une Marquise; an Autumn Idyll; A Garden Idyll; Cupid's Alley; At the Convent Gate; Love in Winter and more. Good antique condition, hand cut pages with gilt edging on the top, minor spotting to the text block edges but nothing untoward. A delightful addition to your library, especially should you love prose and verse, perfect to read aloud whilst sitting in the garden in summer, or deep in silken sheets on a wintry night. 120 pages.
