Meet Artist ANGELA RESENDIZ

Artist ANGELA RESENDIZ creates exquisite one of a kind pillows and bags, out of designer fabrics and trims. Her two great loves are French Country and Shabby Vintage, she combines these two looks in what she calls a “very whimsical and cozy cottage” look.  I am always so inspired by the artists I meet, each time I see Angela’s range of gorgeous products I am immediately smitten.  Creative, with a wonderful design “eye”, Angela has a way of combining color and design unlike any other.  Whether you fall in love with one of her original pillows with hand painted detailing {making each one an original piece of art!} or decide to add one of her original one of a kind bags to your collection, you will be as enthusiastic as I am about her talent, and the quality of her creations.  I know you will enjoy getting to know this artist a little better as we have.

1. Please tell us about yourself.  I live in Brea, California with my husband Victor, we have been married 16 years. For many years we had a very successful wholesale business “Resendiz Art”, and sold our products to stores all over the United States, the UK, France and the Phillipines. Now we do business at a more comfortable pace and do Artisan Shows selling my finds and one of a kind bags and pillows I’ve made.

2.When did you realize you loved to sew ?  I’ve been sewing since before I was 9. I know this so clearly because my mom bought me a little sewing machine of my own when I was 9 because she wanted hers back!

3. You have such a natural talent for painting, when did you learn to paint?  I’ve always loved to paint. I was told by my art teacher in high school I was a natural. That was the only art class I ever took. I’m mostly self taught.

4. What other jobs have you had before becoming a one of a kind accessory designer?  In my 20′s I started a sewing business, I made custom clothing for a good 12 years. At 35 I was hired by the Silk Pavillion to manage one of their stores and within a year I was their buyer and display designer for 4 stores.  In designing the vignettes, I made my own table cloths. People started ordering them and asking me to come design and make things for their homes. That’s how my business started.

5. What inspires you? Just about everything. Walking the flea markets, browsing through my favorite magazines. Even looking at a pile of fabric.

6. If your paintings and pillows had a message, what would you like them to say?  Stop for a minute and enjoy the beauty of your surroundings, pretty things that make you happy. Your favorite things are such because they make you happy and lift your spirits.

Please give us a peek into your life, loves and inspirations:

1. My favorite colors are:  Amber gold, French blue, and ruby red, but also soft pinks and peaches with sage greens and “dirty” whites

2. I love designing:  I love designing bags, jewelry, linens and pillows.

3. If I could have one wish, I would wish for:  There’s alot of ground to cover there. But staying on the subject at hand, I would say to have more people who are kind and nice in this Industry.

4. Right now I’m reading:   Having 2 businesses and being a Holistic Life Coach,  I spend my “down” time meditating.

5. My favorite place is: My favorite place is my garden

6. I  can’t live without: I can’t live without my husband, my family, my friends and my pets.

7. FrenchGardenHouse items I adore:  That’s difficult,  the look of the whole site gets me going, I love it all!  But if I had to pick, it would be everything in the “French Cottage” category. That’s me in a nut shell, the whole French Country Cottage look.

Thanks so much, Angela, for taking the time to chat with us.  You can find some of Angela’s latest creations in the Gifts & French Cottage categories.  You will be as enchanted with them as we are here at FrenchGardenHouse!
