Welcome Fall to your table! Make these easy Napkin Rings from Felt, with your sewing machine, and some easy sewing skills.
You will need:
* Felt for napkin “ring”
* Matching thread
* Hook and eye fastener
* Paper for template
* Felt for oak leaf
* Contrast thread for oak leaf
* Snap or velcro
1) For the napkin ring, cut a 8 inch x 2~1/2 inch rectangle of felt (or make to your chosen size). Fold both short ends over by 1/2″ to make a little seam, and sew.
2) Attach the hook fastener to one end, the loop to the other, so that you can close the ring over your napkins.
3) Using the illustration {above} as a guide, make a 4 inch tall template on paper of the oak leaf shape and cut out. Use the template to cut an oak leaf in felt.
4) Using a contrasting coloured thread, machine stitch from the bottom to the top of the leaf to form a central ‘vein’. When you get to the top, leave the needle lowered into the fabric, lift the presser foot, turn the leaf a quarter turn and stitch a couple of stitches. Once again leave the needle lowered, lift the presser foot, turn the leaf another quarter turn and stitch back down towards the bottom of the leaf, parallel to and close to your first line of stitching. Finish off.
5) Using the photograph as a guide, work ‘veins’ from the central stitching across each of the side leaves in the same way.
6) Attach a snap to the back of the felt leaf and in the center of your napkin ring. {or use velcro}
7) Snap the felt leaf to the felt ring, and fit the collar by fastening the hook and eye. Beautiful around your rolled-up napkins!
