I love plates! Antique ones, vintage ones, and new ones….it doesn’t matter, I adore them all. I have such a passion for beautiful plates that I had to outfit a special storage closet for my collection in my garage, these are the plates I take out for different holidays, birthdays and special occasions such as large parties in the garden. Plates are not only wonderful to set a table with, but you can make fantastic wall displays with them, too. Decorating walls with plates is an excellent method to add visual interest and color to a room.
It’s easy to get your own collection started, you can purchase single plates and build a collection fairly easily, we sell some stunning antique transferware and French Limoges plates to get you started.

I love the wonderful collection of antique French Oyster Plates used above the mantel in this glorious Pink infused livingroom, don’t you?

This collection of Brown transferware is just the right thing for this gorgeous sitting area. Love the white and brown colors, it’s just perfect. {I’m adding this to my portfolio of “one day”}

To die for kitchen in France, which shows off a collection of ironstone platters and plates to perfection.

This was one of the interiors in the “Decorating with White” post not too long ago. Stunning, and so simple.

Absolute perfection! Collection of antique Transferware platters and plates in softest blues and lavender purples. sigh. What a treat it would be to see this every morning.

Some more modern takes on a plate wall. Such a clever idea to add words, don’t you think?

A scattering of plates really liven up this small kitchen area. The great thing is, you can change the plates around, or add different colors for a change of seasons.

I think this plate wall at Bobbette & Belle in Canada is stunning!
To make your own plate wall:
1. Gather all the plates you want to hang on your wall, kraft paper, pencil, scissors, plate holders made to hang plates, or stick on plate hooks, hammer and nails, painter’s tape.
2. Trace each plate and cut it out of the kraft paper, if needed write a description of the plate.
3. Arrange the plate outlines with painter’s tape on your wall until you have an arrangement you like.
4. Attach your plate hanger, and hammer the nail right through the paper on wall, remove paper, and hang plate.
Or…you could do what impatient me does, just start hanging plates and eye ball the arrangement. If you do this at home, we’d love to see photos!

I love every single one of these rooms, with the wonderful arrangements of plates!
Me too, Tracy, each one is beautiful.
Lidy, I love this post in its entirety!! wow! i have to tell you in my old house I had brown and white transferware in my living room, with similar couches. when I saw this picture I just about melted with joy. What I like about using plates as artwork is how inexpensive it is, especially for those just starting out. I have a lovely brown/white tware set to my new daughter in law with an unusual’ gipsy ‘pattern. Great ideas – love the first pink picture, too! who could ever be unhappy in that room? hugs, t
I love plate walls and am hoping to have one in my dining room soon. I love the soft look of the transferware collection. Or the plain ironstone. So many choices.
Somehow I knew you would love this…I can picture your beautiful room right now, Thea. You are so right, plates are such a wonderful way to add visual impact to a room for very little expense. I would love to live in the pink room too…you are right, it’s such a very happy room.
That’s the beauty of the plate walls, isn’t it? So many possibilities. But the great thing is, you can change the whole look of it by adding or substituting the plates. How fun, Lorrie. Be sure to share a picture of yours when it’s done!
