A perfect way to spend the week leading up to Valentine’s Day? Whether you have the screen to yourself, or have a partner or a whole family of friends to watch with, these romantic movies are sure to be a bright spot in your February!
One of the easiest ways to entertain friends is to have a ROMANTIC MOVIE PARTY!  Ask everyone to bring an appetizer, serve up heaping bowls of popcorn, a glass of bubbly {either champagne, or sparkling cider} and a decadent dessert or two.
Get comfortable, and pass the tissues.
Some of the Most Memorable Classic Romantic Films to Watch:

- PRIDE AND PREJUDICE. A favorite love story with Keira Knightley as the spirited heroine who fights snobbery and willfulness.
- GONE WITH THE WIND. Who doesn’t love this classic love/hate movie with Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh? Most remembered quote ever “Frankly Scarlett….”
- THE NOTEBOOK. I cried watching this husband tell his wife with Alzheimer’s the story of their courtship.
- YOU’VE GOT MAIL. A winner on so many levels. One of my daughter’s favorites…we’ve watched it about a hundred times. Meg Ryan. Tom Hanks. Books. What’s not to love?
- BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S. Audrey Hepburn in an amazing role. Chic. Sweet. Wonderful!
- ROMAN HOLIDAY. Another Audrey Hepburn classic, on a vacation with reporter Gregory Peck.
- LOVE STORY. One of the first romantic movies I ever saw. Ali McGraw and Ryan O’Neal in this sweet, major tear jerker. {Have tissues at the ready.}
- WUTHERING HEIGHTS. Ah…deep, dark romance. I prefer the original with Laurence Olivier and Merle Oberon.
- IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT. Cynical reporter Clark Gable and slightly crazy heiress Claudette Colbert prove that opposites attract.
- SENSE AND SENSIBILITY. Another Jane Austen gem, Emma Thompson hides her true feelings for Hugh Grant for the sake of propriety.
- SINGING IN THE RAIN. Gene Kelly & Debbie Reynolds dance their way through this musical about Hollywood romances.
- THE THIN MAN. This one hits all my checkmarks. Married couple Nick (William Powell) and his heiress wife Nora (Myrna Loy) solve mysteries while leading a glamorous art deco era life.
You can serve popcorn in our gorgeous bowls, they are guaranteed to make popcorn taste better!

It’s a toss up for me ” Lady and the Tramp” with my children or a ” Walk to Remember ” with my husband.
The 1995 Colin Firth version of Pride and Prejudice is considered the benchmark, but is six hours long, so if time limitations are an issue, then one could opt for the Keira Knightly version, or the Laurence Olivier/Greer Garson in black and white. Given the choice, I’ll take the 1995 version, which is the only one that does justice to the book, and well, Darcy smolders in that one!
It has recently crossed my mind that I need to collect all of my favorite romantic movies, chic flicks, etc. This list is a great place to start. Sharing. 🙂
“Indiscreet”, “An Affair to Remember”, “Mr. Lucky”, and, the one non-Cary Grant but a favorite, “The Clock” are my choices. It goes without saying that “Gone With The Wind” is always in the mix.

Love this list. Nothing like romance to lift your spirits. Charming idea to make a party of it. How about a Doris Day, Rock Hudson romantic comedy like “Pillow Talk”. Bring on the popcorn. 😉 (That pedestal dish with the palmiers is absolutely gorgeous!)

Another Gary Grant love story is the Bishops Wife ( Christmas Love story) The 1995 Colin Firth version of Pride and Prejudice is the best version. Take the time to watch it. It’s the looks they give each other that tug at your heart. Casablanca is another movie at tears at your heart. I know I have seen it 50 or move times and it gets me every time I watch it.
Late Valentine…but anytime to watch favs! I agree with the OUT of AFRICA suggestions mentioned!! To this I would add: THE ENGLISH PATIENT. Both of these movies are epic historical fiction works, beautifully produced and heart-wrenchingly romantic!

Hands-down all-time favorite romantic movie for my husband and me is Jane Austen’s Persuasion. Especially the 1995 version with Amanda Root and Ciaran Hinds, though I do love the newer one as well. Not one of Austen’s more popular stories but there’s something about Anne and Wentworth’s mature and persevering love that really captivates us.
